Why Manchester United lost to PSG - Eric Bailly

Solskjaer congratulates goalkeeper David de Gea after victory at Fulham Saturday's win at Fulham extended Solskjaer's unbeaten start to 11 games

Manchester United have scored 28 goals in the 11 games since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took the reins at Old Trafford and that attacking flair should again be in evidence at Old Trafford tonight.

"Football is played on the pitch and it's clear that Neymar is very important, that Edinson Cavani is fundamental but football is played on the pitch and today we have shown that".

Maybe they can do the same in Paris, but few are expecting it after the reality check dished out by a team who have been built to win the Champions League.

I thought that after they lost at home to Juventus in October and, although they now have a different manager, as a team they are still in exactly the same place, which is well behind the leading European sides.

Second-half goals from Presnel Kimpembe and Kylian Mbappe ensured that PSG will be firm favourites to progress ahead of the return leg in Paris but Solskjaer has not given up hope of causing a shock at Parc des Princes.

"I think we have to lose the virginity in this competition this season once and for all". Mourinho has proven he is a great manager.

"I can't do anything about Alexis Sanchez", said the Norwegian.

I would say a maximum of two - Pogba and David de Gea - which tells you how far United are away from mounting a serious challenge in the Champions League. They did not have a central defensive partnership of the quality of Thiago Silva and Kimpembe, a midfielder of the quality of Marco Verratti or even Marquinhos, or a player with the speed, skill and strength of Mbappe. The balls forward from Nemanja Matic, crosses from Ashley Young and surges from Pogba were all dealt with.

Ángel Di María, who signed for the Red Devils in 2014 and had an ill-fated spell in the Premier League, came back to haunt his former side by setting up both goals. "They are teams that are as good as PSG, so we will go there to try and make it hard for them".

United were impressive in the first half, without creating much in front of goal.

The teams will face off March 6 in the second leg of their round-of-16 series.

If United are going to get back to where they want to be then that is a position where they need to identify someone who is world-class and available, and bring them in.
