Russell Westbrook has set an National Basketball Association record with his 10th straight triple-double while Paul George had a 47-point triple-double of his own in Oklahoma City Thunder's 120-111 win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Westbrook, finished the game with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. But with a quick flurry of setups, the Oklahoma City Thunder point guard was up to nine assists with four minutes to go.

It was Westbrook's 23rd triple-double of the season and the 127th of his career.

The 30-year-old will have an opportunity to stretch the streak to 11 games when the Thunder square off against the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday.

Russell Westbrook, #0 and Paul George #13 of the Oklahoma City Thunder celebrate a dunk during the first half against the Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center on January 2 in Los Angeles, California. George scored 21 points and Felton added 15. "I think a lot of the things he does that he gets attention for in terms of the triple-doubles are things that impact winning for our team".

Westbrook received a standing ovation from those in attendance at Chesapeake Energy Arena after dishing out his 10th assist in the game, and it was fitting that the feat occurred in Oklahoma City. "Usually, Russ has that by the first quarter".

Westbrook figured he might as well get a different kind of assist.

"It was special from the second the ball was tipped off; I don't know, just a really, really good vibe from amongst our team in this building", George said. "It felt wonderful. The energy was awesome".

The six-time All-Star admitted he had not realized the landmark was just one assist away.

"I just go play the game the right way", Westbrook said.

"We talked about it", George, who is averaging 39.7 points per game this month, told the Associated Press. "That's what I do". I go out and compete every night and leave it on the floor. And whatever happens, happens.

"Best competitor I've played with".
