Not only do we expect carriers to roll out the next generation of high-speed mobile networks, we also anticipate a crop of new 5G phones that will work on said networks. OnePlus encourages attendees to experience a 5G smartphone prototype at a booth run by Qualcomm at MWC 2019. Today the Chinese company confirmed that its MWC event is directly related with the 5G OnePlus handset.

We're now less than two weeks away from MWC 2019, and almost all major smartphone makers will make their presence felt. It is expected that this phone will be offered as a separate model to the inevitable OnePlus 7 flagship refresh, which should also be based on the Snapdragon 855 SoC. Bear in mind that both the Snapdragon 845 and Snapdragon 835 are compatible with the Snapdragon X50, but it's most likely that OnePlus will stick to Qualcomm's latest silicon.

The announcement of the 5G OnePlus phone showcasing was first revealed by folks at XDA Developers which noted, "OnePlus, at Qualcomm's booth (Hall 3 Stand 3E10), invites all to connect and communicate with our community over a 5G network". Keep an eye out for the limited-edition Qualcomm x OnePlus pin badge, only available at the OnePlus stand.

The phone will diverge from OnePlus' main family of flagship phones, which includes the OnePlus 6T, and will be one of the first previews many will get to see of a 5G phone.
