Ferdinand appears to suggest that the former Molde man has already proven himself and that if he secures a top four spot for the club then he should be given the job permanently.

He has also only featured twice in the Premier League since Solskjaer was appointed as interim manager back in December.

The 45-year-old has been able to rejuvenate the likes of Pogba, Herrera and Matic, all of who were heavily criticized under Jose Mourinho and are now a key part of Manchester United's starting lineup.

United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and co-chairman Avram Glazer reportedly met with Solskjaer's adviser, Jim Solbakken, following Saturday's 3-0 win over Fulham.

A lot will probably depend on how the Red Devils fare in their crucial Champions League fixture against PSG next week as the Red Devils brace themselves for arguably their toughest challenge this season.

"There are big games coming up and that will decide where we are going to finish at the end of the season".

'If we win at Old Trafford and we don't concede, then I think we would be favourites for the second leg. "Of course, we're all happy after winning the game".

The Red Devils eased to a 10th win in 11 games under their caretaker manager on Saturday, thanks to a double from Paul Pogba and a fine Anthony Martial solo goal at Craven Cottage, despite Solskjaer making six changes to the side that won at Leicester City last week.

"We know there's a very, very good player there with Fred so hopefully he'll adjust to the English game because there's no doubt there's talent, absolutely no doubt", he said last month.

"We just want to stay there [in the top four] and when we need three points, we get the three points like today".

Paul Pogba has warned Chelsea FC that Manchester United have their sights set on a top-four finish this season.

He has covered the most ground of any player in his last two Premier League appearances (Sky Sports) and he is more than willing to do his fair share of dirty work - and some of Pogba's too.
