But following the departure of Andrew Lincoln, who played the lead character Rick Grimes from the show's beginning, fans must be starting to wonder where the neighbourhood is gone.

Danai Gurira is leaving AMC's The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead Season 9 resumes its run this Sunday night on AMC, with eight more episodes on their way.

According to The Hollywood Reporter Michonne actor Danai will bow out of the show in the upcoming season ten.

Per the shocking development, Gurira will return as the katana-wielding Michonne for Season 10 in just a few episodes that will be dispersed throughout the season. I'll always be a fan and watch any and all of her other movies and shows. We love Danai; we love that character.

AMC and representatives for Gurira declined comment. Right now, she's got a lot of opportunities and she needs to weigh what she feels is best for her.

He expressed: "We really want her to stay". "We really want her to stay".

Considering Michonne became largely the show's central core following Rick's exit, and as a major player in Robert Kirkman's comics, it'll certainly be a challenge for the show if it continues beyond season 10. Cohan will be starring in Fear of the Walking Dead. Obviously, the lesson of Andy is that the show can survive anybody's departure if need be but that's not our goal.

Gurira has been finding success on the big screen, and had a key role in the hugely successful Marvel superhero saga "Black Panther".

What's more, she's set to return as Wakanda general Okoye in the upcoming Avengers: Endgame and is now in the process of adapting the novel Americanah - by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - into a TV miniseries.
