A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain occurred overnight across the metro area, with more snow north and west, and some rain farther south and east. Scattered showers are spread across the Commonwealth today as snow continues to portions of northern Kentucky where there is still a Winter Weather Advisory in effect.

Winter Storm Warning has been issued for Caroline, Queen Anne, and Talbot Counties in Maryland from 7 p.m. Saturday until 1 a.m. Monday. After one batch of snow earlier Saturday afternoon, the worst of our weather comes in Saturday night and Sunday morning. Additional snowfall totals of 2 to 4 inches will be possible as another wave of snow pushes northward into the area.

A state of emergency allows the state to mobilize resources and to deploy people and equipment to assist in response and recovery efforts. Midway International Airport saw 3.7 inches, while downstate Pontiac received Illinois' highest total at 9.3.

As for snowfall accumulations, a general three to six inches is expected.

VDOT is advising motorists to monitor the weather and delay unnecessary travel during this time.

VDOT crews have completed pretreatment of interstates and primary roadways in affected areas and are staged and ready to go once precipitation starts to fall. Travelling will be difficulut with slick, snow covered roads.

Winter Weather Advisories are posted as far south as a couple of counties in Northeastern Georgia!

Do not pass snow plows.
