On Thursday, sources told ESPN FC that Liverpool had no plans to recruit a central defender in January because they believe midfielder Fabinho can operate adequately in the position.

The Reds were knocked out of the FA Cup by Wolves on Monday, losing 2-1 after Klopp started youngsters Rafael Camacho and Curtis Jones in a much-changed XI.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp celebrated "the icing on the cake" after he and Virgil van Dijk won the Premier League's monthly awards for a flawless December.

Joe Gomez still remains sidelined as he recovers from a fractured lower left leg. "We have to take it day-by-day and see how he is doing but that is good".

"Hendo [Jordan Henderson] will train today".

"That is really good but we have to see". Adam [Lallana] is out.

"I don't know [when Lovren is back]". It's a muscle thing and I would expect him back maybe after Crystal Palace - I'm not sure.

"If Fabinho has to play as a centre half what we want is the natural understanding of the game", he said.

"Each game felt like the most important one of the season".

Alberto Moreno is now acting as the reserve left-back, but he has been very vocal in his will to leave the Merseyside club, so if Klopp was to let him go then he would need to buy a left-back in the next few weeks, and while the right-back options could fill in for the time being, it's surely worth Klopp investing on a new left-back in order to give Liverpool the best chance of claiming the title. "We speak in the week, but try to not make it more complicated than it is".

"It's my preferred rhythm".

He told The Argus: "Sometimes you gauge how good the top are by how numerous bottom ten are going to get results against the top six teams".
