The Denver Broncos have been unable to agree to terms with Gary Kubiak on a deal to become offensive coordinator.

The Broncos may have chosen Vic Fangio as the team's next head coach over Mike Munchak, but the runner up may land in Denver in 2019 anyway.

Kubiak's zone-run scheme seemed like a ideal fit, much in the way his offense fit seventh-round pick Justin Forsett in Baltimore.

The team had discussed Kubiak returning as the offensive boss but his desire to bring previous staffers with him and philosophical differences led the parties to decide it was not a good fit at this time, according to sources. Rapoport believes Kubiak will remain with the Broncos; he's been a senior personnel advisor for the last two years. Earlier this hiring season, the Broncos prohibited the Falcons and Bengals from speaking with Kubiak about their offensive coordinator openings, according to Schefter. Munchak finished as the runner-up to Fangio for the head-coaching job.

The announcement of Kubiak returning to Denver as the offensive coordinator was met with praise around the league when news broke Wednesday.

"If Gary is interested, then I'm interested", Fangio said at his introductory press conference on Thursday, per The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala‏.
