The company has recorded its best ever sales in the country and retained the crown of India's number one luxury automaker for the fourth year in a row. It was never as stylish as it set out to be, though, and instead of being a Mercedes that happened to be cheap, it was more like a cheap vehicle that happened to have a Mercedes badge. No longer is it stumpy, dumpy, and weird; it has a mini-CLS look, albeit with front-wheel-drive proportions and more aggressive and angular design details.

The new CLA, which debuted Tuesday at CES, will be launched in May.

Mercedes-Benz debuted the all-new CLA sedan at the ongoing CES 2019. The smoother body helps the CLA to look more expensive than it really is, and the aerodynamics have been improved.

The new CLA measures 4 688 mm long and 1 830 mm wide (increases over the original of 48 mm and 53 mm, respectively), while its height has been cut two millimetres to 1 439 mm.

Mercedes didn't say how much the CLA-Class would cost when it goes on sale near the end of this year, but it's likely to be more than current CLA's base price of roughly $34,000.

To back up the CLA's sportier looks and further set it apart from the lowly A-class, the new model will only be offered in CLA250 form, with a new turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four making 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. There will also be a manual transmission option, as well as 4Matic all-wheel drive capability for the new CLA. Similarly, the high performance AMG models also sustained their momentum in the performance segment from past year, particularly spear headed by the overwhelming response to the AMG E 63 S, the AMG GLE 43 Coupe and AMG GLC 43 coupe.

When it arrives in the US, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 will be equipped as standard with the automaker's MBUX infotainment system that offers personal assistant features, similar to home smart speaker or smartphone functions. "Instead it only responds to the commands of the person who last said "Hey, Mercedes" to activate the system". Its aesthetics have been updated to resemble the rest of the coupe models in the Mercedes-Benz lineup but the biggest update comes in terms of the onboard technology. Other new tech features include gesture-activated interior dome lights, a suite of active-safety and semi-autonomous systems, adaptive LED headlights, and a surround-view camera.

In the new Mercedes-Benz CLA Class, the MBUX experience is expanded.

In fact, the compact coupé-inspired four-door has also broken the shackles of the A-Class design idiom, no longer sharing its frontal design with the hatch that it's ultimately based on.
