Report: Warriors ask NBA to investigate Cavs' signing, release of Patrick McCaw

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the 23-year-old is signing a one-year, $786,000 deal with the franchise. He agreed to an offer sheet with the Cleveland Cavaliers on December 28, which the Warriors elected to not match.
The Cavaliers waived McCaw on January 6, making him an unrestricted free agent once he cleared waivers.
After only a week in Cleveland, McCaw was waived before his contract was guaranteed. The Warriors declined to match and after playing three games with the Cavs, he was released.
There might have been a league issue had the Cavaliers tried to re-sign McCaw at a lower number than the $3 million that he would've been owed this season, but the Cavaliers moved on from him.
The NBA is reportedly investigating the Cavs for signing and waiving McCaw, and could ultimately punish the team by taking away a first-round draft pick. The New York Times reports the league has granted the request and will perform a formal review of the transactions. "With McCaw averaging only 1.7 points on 22.2 percent shooting in 17.7 minutes through three games, the Cavaliers then waived McCaw on Sunday to sign free-agent guard Cameron Payne to a 10-day contract".
McCaw showed flashes in a limited role for the Warriors in his first two seasons and is yet another young wing with plenty of length for the Raptors to add to their deep rotation.
