A first-person shooter in a terrible universe that has seen capitalism run amok and infect numerous other planets, The Outer Worlds mixes the harsh materialism of society with a somewhat amusing look at the future.

Obsidian Entertainment and the creators of the original Fallout are making a new sci-fi RPG, and it's called The Outer Worlds. "It affects everything in the game - the setting, the characters, the dialogs".

One such game was The Outer Worlds, Obsidian's latest RPG.

The game is set on a colonised planet far out in the galaxy.

Like nearly all the titles shown at The Game Awards, The Outer Worlds is due out next year - although there's no indication of exactly when.

The game is not an open-world RPG, but rather a series of interconnected, smaller worlds and locations. However, based on the 15-minute gameplay demo we've seen so far, the environments look plenty open-ended already - or at least, they do a good job giving you the illusion of being open-ended.

However The Outer Worlds turns out, it may be hard for Bethesda's eventual take on the space RPG not to feel like retreaded ground. Unlike Cyberpunk 2077, it doesn't seem like there are any exceptions to that rule in the form of third-person cutscenes or a third-person vehicle camera. The Outer Worlds is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC in 2019.

In it, you play as a colonist taking on megacorps... or not. Will you be getting this when it launches next year? The team that created Fallout and developed Fallout: New Vegas could very possibly deliver a massive hit.

Microsoft's acquisition of Obsidian last month won't affect The Outer Worlds' release.
