What happened: Marvel Studios dropped a new trailer for "Captain Marvel" Monday during halftime of "Monday Night Football".

Carol Danvers has a lot of responsibility weighing on her blue, red, and gold shoulders. It's a striking palette for Marvel, and one that promises a bold new voice in the MCU.

Captain Marvel is a survivor (what), she's not gonna give up.

Marvel has released the new trailer for Captain Marvel, and it does quite a few things, setting up Carol Danvers' backstory and establishing the basic premise of the movie.

The trailer also features a first look at Captain Marvel's iconic mohawk from the comics, while teasing that Carol's past on Earth holds the key to this entire conflict. In fact, according to Larson, it's the friendship that Carol shares with her best friend and fellow pilot Maria that is the glue that holds the science fiction epic together. For one, it will be the first Marvel film with a female lead character.

In just over a decade, Brie Larson has gone from an Avril Lavigne knock-off to indie darling to an Oscar victor to playing "as powerful a character" as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen. When we sat down on set with Brie Larson-the actor who's bringing her to life-she was quick to gush about the love story at the center of the film. We're so close. Just a little longer. The identity of the receiver wasn't explicitly stated, but we all know who it was right?

CAPTAIN MARVEL is produced by Kevin Feige and directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck. Memories of her friend Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) and her past life on Earth keep bubbling up.

Judging by the trailer, it is expected that Larson's character will stay true to her comic-book roots. "If anyone tells you different don't trust them".

The film will debut in theaters on March 8, 2019.
