CDC recommends getting vaccinated by the end of October so that people are more likely to be protected against the flu when activity picks up in the community, however, vaccination into December and beyond can be beneficial during most flu seasons, including this one.

The flu, caused by infection from the influenza virus, can last for a few days or a few weeks depending on the severity of your infection and your overall health. "Flu vaccination can reduce doctor visits, pneumonia, missed work and school due to illness, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations".

INDIANAPOLIS-The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) is encouraging anyone who hasn't already gotten a flu shot to do so immediately. Seasonal flu outbreaks begin as early as October and can last as late as May, which means it is not too late (or too early) to get vaccinated.
