While a concept for now, VW's promising the Tarok will change little when a production version goes on sale in Brazil in the near future.

So far, only know that Tarok built on the platform MQB: local journalists report that a modified truck Tiguan from Allspace. The bed itself is 1,206-mm long, but folding the rear seats down and opening hatch extends the space to 1,861 mm.

The VW Tarok isn't destined for the United Kingdom or Europe (at the moment), but we'd have thought there would be healthy market for a cheaper, lifestyle pick-up sitting below the Amarok - complete with the tax breaks for business owners.

The five seater has a Targa-inspired roof bar, three-dimensional LED lighting strip in the rear, while inside there's a a colour-keyed crossbar stretching across the entire dash panel surrounding a glass-covered infotainment system, digital air conditioning controls and a Digital Cockpit driver display.

Dubbed the "next-generation pick-up", the Tarok is set for launch on the Brazilian market soon, though Volkswagen has yet to indicate whether it will be sold in any other countries.

Unlike the aging and conservative interior of the Amarok, the company says that the interior of the Tarok Concept "indicates a new way forward for Volkswagen in the pick-up segment, with its primarily digital design". The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic, and the ride has permanent 4Motion all-wheel drive.

The striking feature of the Tarok Concept is its variable loading area concept.

However, Volkswagen has stated that the production Tarok will be powered by a more conventional 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine instead.

Said to be able to haul up to one tonne, the Tarok's tray can accommodate extra-long items if both the tailgate and rear bulkhead door are folded down. The production model will be offered with two-liter diesel, also an outstanding 150 forces.
