Last year Sessions recused himself from overseeing the Mueller probe, which has been a constant source of anger from the president. Sessions said in a letter to Trump that he resigned at the president's request.

Never in modern history has a president attacked a Cabinet member as frequently and harshly in public as Trump did Sessions, a former USA senator from Alabama and one of the first members of Congress to back Trump's presidential campaign in 2015. Conway says that Rosenstein was at the White House Thursday and Friday.

They were organized by Move On advocacy group, who wrote in a statement announcing the marches: "Donald Trump has installed a crony to oversee the special counsel's Trump-Russia investigation, crossing a red line set to protect the investigation".

Matthew Whitaker is now acting attorney general, and he's now in position to oversee the Russian Federation investigation led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

Overseeing it all is Whitaker, a former college football player and United States attorney from Iowa who was brought into the Justice Department a year ago to serve as Sessions' chief of staff.

Recent acting and permanent attorneys general have been longtime government lawyers or high-ranking politicians with more experience navigating Washington than Whitaker.

Trump blamed the recusal for the appointment of Mueller, who took over the Russian Federation investigation two months later and began examining whether Trump's hectoring of Sessions was part of a broader effort to obstruct the probe.

"It's unfortunate that we all knew the president was going to try to get rid of Jeff Sessions", Warner, a Virginia Democrat, said.

The 90-minute presser was a finger-wagging spectacle, with Trump repeatedly berating reporters and the media, and some observers comparing him to a drunk uncle at a wedding party as he rambled incoherently on sundry issues in a spectacle that many fear diminishes the United States. He appointed Mueller in May 2017 as the justice department's special counsel to take control of the FBI's Russian Federation probe after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.

Several hundred demonstrators, some carrying signs of "Trump is not above the law" and "You can't fire the truth", gathered outside the White House and in Lafayette Park, just north of the White House, in Washington, Nov. 8, 2018.

CNN reports that Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi is also under consideration. The moment the Democrats clinched the required 23 seats to retake the lower chamber; they were readying the various probes into this presidency-and the left wing harassment of this administration is about to begin.

He has also written that he believes the Mueller probe has gone too far and that Trump's finances should be off limits to the special counsel.

Sessions took the lead in imposing Trump's travel ban targeting a number of mostly Muslim nations, canceling the so-called Dreamer program that let the children of undocumented immigrants remain in the USA and forcing the separation of migrant families as part of a border crossing crackdown.
