Ariana Grande has channelled '90s cult classic First Wives Club for the first performance of her headline-making new single, Thank U, Next.

With her newest song, the pop singer revisits her past romances with rapper Big Sean, dancer Ricky Alvarez, comedian Pete Davidson and rapper Mac Miller (who sadly passed away in September from a drug overdose), thanking each them for their role in helping her become the woman she is today.

Ariana Grande performed her latest single "thank u, next" for the first time on Ellen and her "First Wives Club" dance routine saw her nearly fall down.

The God is a Woman hitmaker released her hit single No Tears Left To Cry earlier this year, serving as her first song since the Manchester Arena bombing at her concert in May 2017, which claimed the lives of 22 concertgoers.

At one point, she climbed on top of a chair and almost fell on her way down.

But she ran into some trouble dancing around the set, which was made to look like a wedding reception, stumbling when she stepped down from a chair. Grande, who was recently named Billboard's Woman of the Year, later tweeted that her exes "heard it before it came out". "Holding hands with my mama", she sang, through tears. We all love you.

In the wake of his death, Ariana confirmed her split from ex-fiance Pete in October - four months after announcing their engagement. She even took the time to learn some rather tight choreography - which is what caused the near-disaster - with her backing singers.

"I thought we were supposed to exit!"

"I know some of you are curious about the breakup but the truth is it's nobody's business and sometimes things just don't work out and that's OK", he said during "Weekend Update".
