(CNN)The following contains spoilers about the November 4 (fifth) episode of "The Walking Dead's" ninth season.

Andrew Lincoln left "The Walking Dead" on Sunday night after eight and a half years on the AMC show, but his time playing Rick Grimes is hardly over. The former Deputy Sheriff, who has been the heart and soul of this series over the past eight-and-a-half seasons is departing, and AMC have made sure to cash in on that fact. Norman Reedus (Daryl) says that his on- and off-screen buddy "taught me to be a better father, a better friend, a better actor", and the late Scott Wilson (Hershel) expresses his delight at having gotten to appear with Lincoln in his last episode. For the longest time, it looks like Rick is done for. Some of the stories will relate to The Walking Dead as fans know it while others will be standalone stories that break into new creative territory. Right now, the ideas are numerous and vague: "We're going to dig into the past and see old characters".

AMC is expanding the Walking Dead franchise into multiple The Walking Dead movies, set to be headlined by Lincoln.

Are you a fan of The Walking Dead on AMC? I have to admit, I was curious how the show could at all carry on without its signature star, and the person that I presume is also still the star of the originating comic series. Now we know that while Rick is gone, he's not forgotten.

This plan for three Rick Grimes-led The Walking Dead movies seems to fly in the face of Lincoln's final episode this past Sunday, which saw him nobly sacrificing himself for the camp by leading a group of walkers onto a bridge decked with dynamite.

As part of Gimple's multi-year plan for The Walking Dead Universe, there are other projects now in development, including additional films, specials, series, digital content and more. "What's going on? What have the grown-ups been doing while we've been scrambling around in the dirt?" I want to know the meta of it all.

"But I'll just - it was the goodbye, the goodbye was awesome, you know, 'cause it's everybody that's worked with me for - alongside the show, you know, for nine years".
