Lionel Messi looked in some discomfort when he was forced out of Saturday night's clash against Sevilla with an arm injury.
The gruesome-looking injury occurred when Messi landed hard on his right arm after getting wrapped up with Sevilla midfielder Franco Vazquez. He was clearly in agony and after 10 minutes of attempted treatment on the sidelines, he was replaced in the 26th minute by Ousmane Dembele.
A Barcelona statement read: "Tests carried out on the first team player Leo Messi have confirmed that he has a fracture of the radial bone in his right arm".
"It is clear it is a blow", Barca coach Ernesto Valverde said.
"We've played without him in the past. But we have to take it on, we have resources [to come into the team], despite the opposition being tough".
Barca defender Gerard Pique admitted Messi's absence would have an impact on the team.
The hosts got off to a fast start at Camp Nou, with Phillipe Coutinho scoring in the second minute. We will prepare for it but of course we are going to notice the loss of Messi.
At the time of writing, the severity of Messi's injury remains unknown but considering the pain he was in, it would not be surprising to see him miss some crucial fixtures for the Catalan giants.
But Messi had to be substituted having hurt his right arm in an awkward fall and he could miss Wednesday evening's (Thursday morning AEDT) UEFA Champions League game against Inter Milan, as well as next Sunday afternoon's (Monday morning AEDT) showdown with rivals Real Madrid. "We will try to maintain our style".
