More than half of the people who responded believed that the flu shot caused the flu.

Until that universal vaccine comes out, Fauci says you need to get a flu shot every year.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada's FluWatch, there were 64,403 lab-confirmed cases of influenza in Canada last season, mostly Influenza A/H3N2.

The Commons science and technology committee said it expected "full coverage" for social care workers, but "at best" only one in four care home workers took the jab.

Last year, 80,000 people died from the flu, which is the highest total ever recorded since seasonal flu-related deaths have been tracked.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, says everyone over the age of six months should get their flu shot this year, especially people who are most susceptible - such as young children, women who are pregnant, the elderly, people with underlying chronic diseases, including heart or lung disease, and people on medication that suppress their immune system.

Paramedics will also administer flu shots this season to city staff and to their families. "So you can get a reaction, but you can't get the actual influenza from it", Huffer says.

The vaccine can take time to begin working.

Health professionals are urging citizens to get their flu shot. Severity - measured by the proportion of people with flu-like illness taking time off work and the burden on hospitals - has been low.

How many strains of flu does the vaccine protect against?

"I fully support mandatory vaccination against flu infection in key healthcare personnel, in tandem with those already in place, to provide immunity to both healthcare workers and their patients".

"I'd like to see more people get vaccinated", Redfield reportedly told journalists.

If your child can not have a vaccine, the flu mist is back this year.
