"We would be victims of an aggression and would get to heaven as martyrs", Putin said, while those who attacked Russian Federation would "just die and not even have time to repent".

The attack on the refugee camp came after an intense clash between ISIS and the USA -backed Syrian Democratic Forces.

Speaking Thursday at an global policy forum, Putin said: "Those who believe that there was a murder must present evidence".

The leader said the situation in Syria remains hard, especially in the east of Euphrates, where USA and European Union citizens were among 700 people taken hostage by Daesh.

He said unstable young people were creating "fake heroes for themselves" and "reaching out for a surrogate for heroism" in the absence of the real thing. He thinks Trump wants "some sort of stabilization and improvement of U.S".

The Russian leader pointed at political infighting between the Democrats and the Republicans, saying it blocked any possible effort by Trump to fix the fractured ties with Russia.

President Vladimir Putin says Russian Federation would only use its nuclear weapons in response to an incoming missile attack.

The Russian nuclear doctrine allows for the use of this weapon in a conventional conflict, but only if Russia's existence is at stake.

Russian media reported that Putin also sent a warning to the West during his speech in Sochi: "Any aggressor should know that retribution will be inevitable and he will be destroyed".

Mr Putin acknowledged it would mean a global catastrophe, but emphasised Russian Federation "can't be those who initiated it".

"We would be victims of an aggression and would get to heaven as martyrs", while those who initiated the aggression would "just die and not even have time to repent", he added.
