The department said 125,000 people received the flu shot a year ago through the province's publicly funded vaccination program.

"Each flu season is different and unpredictable", Steward said.

"Even if you are in good health, it's important to get immunized to prevent the spread of illness to high-risk individuals such as newborns, young children, pregnant women, and adults with chronic medical conditions", McGrath said. "Although not ideal, the flu shot is a valuable and life-saving public health tool".

30 percent of parents feel flu vaccines are a conspiracy.

First is to get a flu shot, Mary-Ann Rock, the Manager of communicable disease and control department of the Haliburton-Kawartha-Pine Ridge Health Unit, says that the flu shot is targeted to combat influenza, adding that it is the best protection against the virus.

A third of parents believe that the flu vaccine doesn't work. Flu shots are generally recommended for anyone age 6 months and older.

During the 2017-18 flu season - the deadliest flu season in four decades - 80,000 Americans died, including 180 children. "You can not get autism from the flu vaccine". Healthy Schools, founded by former Jacksonville Jaguars player Tony Boselli, said the clinics are getting back on track, offering in-school flu shots to students in the district.

Flu activity remains low across the state, according to the health department, but it's expected to pick up in the coming weeks.
