Will Smith Teases New 'Aladdin' Movie With First Look At Poster

Will Smith, who will be playing the iconic Genie character in Disney's upcoming live-action Aladdin film, has shared a new poster revealing Genie's lamp and teasing that you should choose your wishes wisely. It's a straight up teaser set to get your nostalgia tingling as you see an animated classic translated to "live-action" (I don't think there's a single shot in this trailer that isn't filled with CGI, which is fine, but it's live-action in the same way that Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book is live-action).

As nearly everyone knows, Genie has been trapped inside the lamp for thousands of years, but once the street-rat-turned-phony-prince Aladdin rubs its side, Genie is finally free. In the 1992 film, animation was an essential part in bringing Robin Williams' wild, manic voice work to life. Naomi and Mena looked flawless as Princess Jasmine and Aladdin. With the release just over six months away, the first poster has now been revealed - sure to evoke intense feelings of nostalgia for anyone with fond memories of the 1992 version. Aladdin isn't going to be Disney's only live-action movie in 2019. It's one of the best films in what's known as the "Disney Renaissance", in which the House of Mouse returned to making animated musical films. Aladdin is hitting theaters some time in May.

Guy Ritchie is helming the new Aladdin movie, from a script he co-wrote with Vanessa Taylor and John August. Smith plays Genie alongside Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Campbell as Jasmine, and Marwan Kenzari as Jafar.
