The launch confirmed what we already knew about both phones based on the leaks and also reveal some new details.

"If you have a Google tattoo on you, then these are the phones for you", IDC analyst Ramon Llamas said of the Pixel's limited appeal so far.

Google's positioned a pair of 2W front-firing speakers on the front of the Slate - when it's held in landscape they're positioned at either end.

When it comes to performance and speed, the Pixel 3 XL and regular 3 are certain to be some of the best in the business.

The Hub includes six months of free YouTube Premium, and will be available October 22 for $149 United States dollars in the USA, U.K and Australia. Both models come in Just Black, Clearly White, and Not Pink.

It's a step forward from the older 16:9 display of the Pixel 2, but we get the feeling that Google was focused on evolving the previous handset design, rather than creating a bezel-busting compact phone. Always On also makes a comeback.

For now, though, let's assume the Google Pixel 3 XL will be free of the sorts of annoying defects that afflicted the original and consider the key specifications for a moment or two.

Unlike its competitors, Google said its Home Hub, priced at $149, does not have a video conferencing camera. You can get them unlocked or through Verizon. The firm is also expected to launch a new tablet computer - the Pixel Slate. There is also a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter that consumes less power. The 128GB Pixel 3 will set you back $899 or $37.46 per month if financed through the Google Store. Now the Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL are here to claim the title.

The rear camera is a 12.2MP sensor with a f/1.8 aperture and a 1.4um pixel size.

The company's Android software has gone from being an also-ran to the brains of most of the world's smartphones and Google topped Inc in smart speaker sales in recent quarters. It's a huge notch in this case to make room for the dual cameras. One is a 97° wide-angle f/2.2 sensor and the other is a standard f/1.8 sensor. If you have smart security cameras or doorbells installed, you can view the feed on the Home Hub. Top Shot will take photos before you hit the shutter button and present you with the best one, even if you missed the moment or caught someone being ugly.

And if you need some catching up to do with last night's event, why not watch the whole thing? It will be available later as an update. The Pixel 3 XL, on the other hand, starts at ₹83,000 ($1,120) for the 64GB variant, and goes up to a mind-blowing ₹92,000 ($1,242) for the 128GB storage variant. Users on a budget should probably plump for Optus' $65 My Plan Flex 24-month leasing plan which provides 20GB total monthly data. It comes in two new colors, chalk and charcoal, and is available for purchase now in the US, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Great Britain, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Singapore, and Sweden.
