Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov on Thursday threatened to quit UFC as tensions heightened in the wake of a melee following his victory Saturday over Conor McGregor.

Nurmagomedov also said in his Instagram post he believes McGregor hit Tukhugov first during their confrontation in the octagon post-fight.

Apart from Tukhugov, there were at least two more Nurmagomedov team members who were involved in the fight.

Russian President Vladimir Putin met with UFC fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov and his father on Wednesday.

Nurmagomedov, 30, said: "We never give up on our brothers in Russian Federation and I will go to the end for my brother".

Sympathising with the fighter, Putin told the pair: "I am going to ask your father to cut you some slack because what matters most is that you fought like a fighter and you won".

"But it's better not to take it to that", he added. Once the fighter gets into the details about fellow fighter Zubaira Tukhugov, things get juicy.

Nurmagomedov jumped over the Octagon fence to confront McGregor's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coach Dillon Danis, inciting a massive brawl on the arena floor.

The NSAC is expected to file complaints on Nurmagomedov and McGregor for their roles in the incident. "If you still decide to fire him, don't forget to send me my broken contract, otherwise I'll break it myself". Nurmagomedov was just days away from fighting for the UFC lightweight title that was being stripped from McGregor due to inactivity.

He then put the blame on Conor McGregor for the brawl, saying: "If you think that I'll keep silent then you are mistaken".

"You cancelled Zubaira's fight and you want to dismiss him just because he hit Conor". If you still decide to fire him, don't forget to send me my broken contract, otherwise I'll break it myself.

"You are pretty busy with that, I hope it won't get stuck in your throat", Nurmagomedov said. If people wanna see it, if the UFC wants to pay for it, I know Khabib will enjoy a record breaking number, like I said before. "We have defended our honor and this is the most important thing".

Nurmagomedov expressed no remorse, telling Putin he responded to "disrespect" and "provocations" from his opponent and that he hoped to be vindicated. Three of the Russian's team were arrested and later released. "But Conor McGregor has already called me, wanting a rematch".
