He said the France captaincy was not one of his main goals.

The Portuguese tactician removed Pogba as vice-captain following the midfielder's public criticism of his tactics two weeks ago, and many believe the Frenchman's latest comments could be seen as yet another jab at his manager.

"I would have said "no, that's not something to say because you're not the manager".

Pogba told L'Equipe: 'I have never played for France to be captain.

"I'm not going to get into it, whether it's (Antoine) Griezmann, Kylian (Mbappe) or Raphael who deserve it much more than me".

"For me, a leader isn't someone who wears something on his arm, who puts on the captain's armband".

"I think he (Pogba) has done it on goal, and I don't think that is right", said Saha.

"As a leader you can talk on the pitch but I've seen leaders who didn't necessarily talk".

"I think that Jose Mourinho saw the same thing as me".

"It's true that there are some facts, and some may have jumped to certain conclusions. I don't want to be mixed up with anything and to interfere with any player's relationship with their coach", Deschamps summed up.

Manchester United supporters were elated with the performance of midfielder Paul Pogba, who became the catalyst of the club's 3-2 Premier League comeback win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

"I would have said "no, that's not something to say because you're not the manager".

Unlike in recent matches, United showed a better intent in attacking the opposition during the second period but it could be said that there were left with no choice after the shambles before the first half.

It seems Pogba's comments acted as the last straw for Mourinho who reportedly told him in front of other team mates during a training session that he would be stripped off captain duties.
