Tonight's highly anticipated performers also include Taylor Swift ("I Did Something Bad"), Mariah Carey ("With You"), and Camila Cabello ("Consequences").

The night opens with Taylor Swift making her first awards-show performance in almost three years, and tributes promise to provide memorable moments.

Thomas Rhett attends the 2018 American Music Awards at Microsoft Theater on October 9, 2018 in Los Angeles, California. "Get out and vote - I love you guys". "Thank you guys so much, I appreciate it", she concluded while two guys stood on each side of her.

While collecting the Artist of the Year award, Swift encouraged fans to vote in the upcoming midterm elections, as they did for her in the AMAs.

Cardi B, who won for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist, delivered her first post-baby TV performance with her hit "I Like It", featuring J Balvin and Bad Bunny.

She also picked up three other awards, for best female pop artist, best tour, and best pop album for "reputation", the biggest seller of 2017.

On Sunday, Swift provoked a storm by breaking her silence on politics and announcing she would vote for two Democrats in Tennessee in the US congressional midterm elections in November. 2009 was a big one for Taylor at the show, as she won Artist of the Year, Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Country Female Artist, Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist AND Favorite Country Album. However, what really put cardi on top was her completely out of control performance of "I Like It'". The song is rumored to be about Kanye West or Calvin Harris, and amounts to Swift's insistence that she's not anxious about the consequences of her actions in this particular fantasy - especially since she thinks they're warranted.

Another week, another music awards show.

Taylor also seemingly teased a new album is in the works during her acceptance speech for Pop/Rock Album, saying she was glad fans embraced her "Reputation" era, but was "even more excited for the next chapter".
