Taylor Swift will open the show - her first awards show performance in almost three years.

Taylor Swift reportedly caused a spike in voter registrations both nationwide and in Tennessee when she broke her political silence Monday on Instagram, and the singer talked about politics again Tuesday at the American Music Awards.

Going into the show, NY rappers Cardi B and Drake led nominations with eight apiece, followed by Post Malone, Sheeran, Cuban-born Camila Cabello, Swift, Khalid and Bruno Mars.

Swift won three awards at the AMAs, but she saved politics for her last acceptance speech of the night.

At the Disco. The diva quota will be filled by headliners Jennifer Lopez, Carrie Underwood, Mariah Carey and the ever-provocative Cardi B. In the rap/hip-hop and pop/rock categories, Drake is up for favorite male artist, favorite album and favorite song with "God's Plan". BTS was previously announced as one of the nominees for Favorite Social Artist. The show will also pay tribute to Aretha Franklin, who died in August.

Some of music's top stars, including Drake, Ed Sheeran, Beyonce, Ariana Grande, Rihanna and Kanye West, were absent on Tuesday.

"Black-ish" star Tracee Ellis Ross will host the AMAs, which air live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT.
