Speaking through tears on the telephone, Valerie Abeling said her 34-year-old niece Erin Vertucci was among the victims, along with Vertucci's newlywed husband, 30-year-old Shane McGowan.

"Investigators are continuing with interviews of witnesses and family members and autopsies of the victims are also still ongoing at Albany Medical Center", the National Transportation Safety Bureau said in a statement Monday night.

"Second, that vehicle was inspected by the NY state Department of Transportation last month and failed inspection".

Sumwalt said the NTSB will look into whether regulations on limousines are adequate.

The company said it has "voluntarily taken our fleet of vehicles off of the road during the investigation".

The 19-seater limo ran a stop sign and hit a parked SUV.

Numerous victims were from that area.

All 18 people in the limo were killed, including the driver, Fiore said.

Federal transportation records show Prestige is owned by Shahed Hussain, who worked as an informant for the FBI after the September 11 attacks, infiltrating Muslim groups by posing as a terrorist sympathizer in at least three investigations.

Court records show that the Shahed Hussain who owns that motel gained fame in the years after the 11 September 2001, terrorist attacks for infiltrating certain Muslim fundamentalist groups on behalf of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

In 2004, he testified in a case stemming from a Federal Bureau of Investigation sting operation against two men who were charged with money laundering as part of a plot to import missiles to NY. The case also urged New York's governor to establish a task force on limo safety.

Ford said it has never made its own stretch version of the Excursion SUV.

That's one of the inspections that the limo in the crash had failed because of brake and suspension problems, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Customers in the parking lot were killed when they were hit by the limo coming down a hill on state Route 30 at "probably over 60 miles per hour [100kmh]", the store manager, Jessica Kirby, told The New York Times.
