Every year, some people choose not to get vaccinated because they believe that if everyone else is protected, they won't catch the flu.

Dangers of flu are underestimatedA number of surveys have revealed that those particularly at risk often don't follow the vaccination recommendations because they "feel happy and healthy", doctor Kamilla Grønborg Laut told TV2.

A staggering 95 percent of all fatalities were found to have belonged to a risk group - yet more than half had not been vaccinated.

According to the news release, flu vaccines are available that contain three of four flu A and B types, which are created to ensure good protection against the flu strains that could cause illness this year. The flu is especially unsafe, even deadly, for older adults, pregnant women, children, and people with chronic medical conditions.

How many people died from the flu previous year? However, many people only reach for the drug when symptoms already have set in. This makes vaccination of staff caring for frail, older people even more important. Once you get a flu shot, your friends, family and co-workers will be safer. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies that protect against flu to develop in the body, so make plans to get vaccinated early in fall, before flu season begins.

There are many reasons to get your flu shot this flu season. A single flu shot can go a long way in preventing the disease and even a possible fatality.

There were no flu-related pediatric deaths last season in Winnebago County, said Todd Kisner, director of the Health Department's Center for Health Protection.

Immunity from flu is expected to last through January for those who get vaccinated now, Fricchione said.

A 2013 study published in the journal Clinical Infectious Diseases found that people who got the flu shot were less likely to be hospitalized with the flu.

Seasonal flu is as n acute respiratory infection caused by influenza viruses which circulate around the globe.

In addition to clinics that are open to the public, the Health Department also works with employers to hold quick, efficient flu clinics at worksites, providing a valuable benefit to employees.
