Much like its name implies, this is supposed to be a higher-end alternative to the recently introduced and value-oriented Nokia 6.1 which was created to serve as yet another reliable daily driver capable of delivering consistent performance in virtually every scenario. Coming back to the Nokia 7.1, here's a look at what the latest Nokia phone will offer. The Nokia 7.1 has a 5.84 inch display with 2280 by 1080 pixel resolution which is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The tech provides the new phone with not only the support for HDR10 contents but also real-time SDR to HDR conversion for videos. The design of the handset feels like every other device with a metal and glass chassis, so there is nothing extraordinary here that we should ponder upon any further.

Powering the Nokia 7.1 is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor clocked at 1.6GHz, coupled with 3GB of RAM. While the storage is expandable via microSD card, the internal memory is running on eMMC 5.1 speeds. The Nokia 7.1 rocks a primary 12MP shooter on the rear side with f/1.8 aperture, 1.28um, PDAD, and it works in tandem with a 5MP depth sensor.

Similar to the TrueTone feature found on iPhones, the Nokia 7.1 automatically shifts the colours on the display so that the picture fits with the surrounding ambiance. At the front, the smartphone features a single 8MP camera. Firstly, you will experience a clean UI with reduced bloatware, resulting in a fluid OS.

The first thing you'll notice is how compact the Nokia 7.1 feels. As for the yearly software updates, those are going to be handled by HMD Global. HMD Global, however, says the phone will get Android 9.0 Pie as soon as next month.

The new Nokia will be available in two finishes - Gloss Midnight Blue and Gloss Steel, both of which feature "dual-anodised diamond-cut coloured edges", which we think is marketing speak for "shiny and metallic-looking".

Unlike the Nokia 7, the Nokia 7.1 will launch globally, with pre-orders starting tomorrow, October 5.

Europeans have two choices: the 3GB/32GB variant, as well as an upgraded version with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. For selfies, you get an 8-megapixel fixed focus snapper on the front.
