Apple will no longer provide the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter with the iPhone.

The news was met with instant ridicule across social media, as Twitter users likened it to everything from energy drinks to commentary on its "excessive" cost.

Apple will continue to sell the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 in regular and Plus sizes.

As befits the hype, glitz and glamor of an Apple launch, the company revealed the details of its new smartphone models and a new smartwatch in Cupertino on Wednesday.

Apple also announced a new iPhone XR starting at $749, available in October, with a 6.1-inch display to broaden its pool of buyers. According to 9to5Mac, the product page for last year's iPhone X mentioned AirPower and a release date of 2018. But, people are already reading it as X, and that's likely to catch on.

The same thing applies to this year's iPhone XS and XS Max, which also have OLED screens. It is, however, comparatively less expensive than the iPhone XS ($999).

Both the iPhone XS and XS Max are styled similarly to the iPhone X with an edge-to-edge display and glass back.

Cook said Apple was nearing the two-billion mark for devices with its mobile operating system known as iOS.

If we refer to Apple Singapore's pricing, the iPhone XS is priced from RM4,974 for the base model with 64GB and it goes up to RM7,086 for the 512GB version of the iPhone XS Max.

That's mostly because of the phone's massive display - at 6.5-inches diagonal, this is the biggest screen that Apple has ever squeezed into a smartphone.

For comparison, the iPhone XS Max is bigger even than the Galaxy Note 9, which spans 6.4 inches.

The camera features have at least one 12-megapixel rear camera and a 7-megapixel front-facing camera that supports Face ID unlocking and Animojis, while the XR lacks a second rear camera and uses a software to take artistic portrait-style shots with background blur (called Bokeh).

Apple claims the XR will boast "all-day" battery life. In addition to the iPhone XS and the bigger XS Max-this year's follow-ups to the iPhone X-Apple unveiled the rumored "budget" version of the handset, the iPhone XR. With the introduction of iPhones ditching the Apple-made feature of 3D Touch, it could spell the death of one of Apple's most promising features, even if no one really uses it.

Apple will likely hold another event later this year where it will announce a MacBook Air overhaul with a new design and higher-resolution display, a new MacBook Mini for professional users, and new iPad Pro models with FaceID and smaller bezels around the display. It will come in Silver, Gold, Space Gray, Polished Space Black, and a new Gold Stainless color.

In any case, the new products have garnered a lot of excitement. Greater screen area allows for app icons and fonts that are bigger and easier to read, while "complications" have been "beautifully enhanced to be more precise and informative", says Apple.

The iPhone XR has essentially the same internals as the iPhone XS and XS Max-an A12 Bionic chipset with a six-core central processing unit, 4-core GPU, and 8-core neural engine. On Tuesday, UBS raised its price target to US$250, arguing a growing stream of recurring revenue from services and other offerings deserves a higher valuation than the more-cyclical hardware business.
