Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng has confirmed he spoke with Jose Mourinho after Manchester United expressed their interest in signing him this summer, according to quotes in the Mirror. I feel well at Bayern, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world.

'So Paul, if you want to go play somewhere else, let's make that work for you because Manchester United will be fine, don't worry about that'.

He told the Bild that he had "enquiries" from Man United and PSG but opted to remain in Germany because everything was "in place".

The Red Devils re-signed the World Cup winning superstar in the summer of 2016 in the club's record fee of about £89 million from Juventus.

Pogba has done little to kill the rumours surrounding his future or his relationship with Jose Mourinho, who made him captain in the absence of Antonio Valencia at the start of the season.

Tottenham's Toby Alderweireld and Leicester City's Harry Maguire are said to have been Mourinho's top picks, but their deals failed to materialize following "financial disagreements" between club officials.

Sky Sports reported in August that United and Mourinho were huge admirers of the central defender, though the 30-year-old held aspirations to win the UEFA Champions League and he felt he could not do that at Old Trafford.

'Neville the pundit on Pogba would say, "He's a talented player but I want to see more consistency and leadership," the former right back told The Times. It was no escape, but rather the thrill of a new challenge.

"After the World Cup it's so hard to be physically, tactically and mentally right".
