Coach Dana Holgorsen has West Virginia in the preseason AP Top 25 for the fourth time in eight seasons, but staying ranked has been a challenge. It's the first time in school history that the Knights have received a preseason spot in the rankings.

This marks the 19th straight year that OU has appeared in the preseason AP Top 25, which is the second longest current string behind Ohio State (30).

UCF cracked last season's top 25 on October 1 following the team's 38-10 win over Maryland.

College football's "week zero" arrives later this week and, to celebrate the start of the 2018 season, The Associated Press released its first Top 25 offering of the campaign on Monday.

UCF has appeared in the AP Top 25 poll 22 previous times. The AP poll is a historic poll of record. It was also the lowest preseason ranking FSU has opened with since the team was ranked No. 20 to open up the 2010 season - Jimbo Fisher's first year as head coach.

Oklahoma opens the season September 1 at home against Florida Atlantic. According to ESPN, the preseason AP poll started in 1950 and since then only Oklahoma from 1985-87 had started #1 in three straight years until now. Alabama is ranked No. 1 (1,505 points, 42 first-place votes), Clemson is No. 2 (1,476; 18), Georgia is No. 3 (1,350), Wisconsin is No. 4 (1,271; one), Ohio State is No. 5 (1,256) and Washington is No. 6 (1,215).
