If the Yankees put together a few innings like the first and the second on Thursday night, they should have no problem escaping Boston with a game two win. He'd gone 0-for-4 with two strikeouts before the game-winner.

The Red Sox are 6-1 in Porcello's last seven starts and are 7-3 in his last 10 home outings. It is what is coming from behind in the wild-card race that should now obsess the Yankees. "There's no denying the season that they're having".

"There's no question that they've established themselves right now as the best team in this league", NY manager Aaron Boone said.

By the time Sunday night's sweep was concluded, the only relevant part of that quote was "lights out".

The wild card-leading Yankees arrived in Chicago early Monday morning after a hard 5-4 loss at Fenway Park.

Boone can get Didi Gregorius and other everyday players the rest he has been trying to give them.

With New York leading 4-1 in the ninth, Chapman loaded the bases on walks before Martinez's two-out, two-run single pulled Boston within one. Trevor Story hit two two-run homers for the Rockies, who have dropped five of six. Garcia then bunted a 0-2 pitch toward third, and Duffy threw wildly toward first. Jackie Bradley Jr., in as a pinch-runner, scored all the way from second to tie the score. We could pick up some much needed games and hopefully, Aaron Judge will be on the mend and J.A. Happ will back in the rotation.

"Look, we know we're really good", Boone said, "and the guys I don't think have any doubt in there".

Despite trailing 4-1 entering the ninth inning, the Red Sox rallied for a 5-4 win. At this moment, the Yanks are not just clearly inferior to the Red Sox, but playing poorly in every phase.

Fast forward, Boston suffered through losing campaigns in 2014 and 2015 but bounced back in 2016 with an American League East crown and 93-69 record.

Working the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball telecast for his first time in Fenway, color analyst and former Yankee Alex Rodriguez discussed his fight with former Red Sox catcher Jason Varitek in 2004 during the broadcast, saying the current Yankees need a spark. The A's and Mariners are. He was back in right field Saturday.

"I've seen Mookie field ground balls before, and he's pretty darned good, so I actually felt pretty good about it", Porcello said. After Luis Cessa got rocked in relief Thursday against the Red Sox, that may have been his last straw.at least for now. No second-place team in the majors now trails the first-place club by more than the Yanks do the Red Sox.

After this weekend, it might be time for the Yankees to adjust their focus for what looks inevitable: a wild-card game, and Boston.
