With just two days left to sign a replacement, Chelsea must act fast and they have made a quick, significant move for a new number one.

Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has paid his 80 million-euro (71.9 million pounds) buy-out clause to break his contract with the Spanish side ahead of a reported move to Chelsea.

The Belgian will leave Chelsea after seven seasons, three of which he spent on loan at Atletico Madrid.

According to Sky Sports, Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga's release clause has been activated and now, he could well see himself at the London club in the very near future.

Kepa was close to joining Madrid for as little as €20m in January, but the deal was blocked by then-coach Zinedine Zidane, and Athletic responded by committing their prized asset to a new long-term contract, which increased his buyout figure to €80m.

In making a move for Kepa the Blues eclipsed the previous world-record fee for a goalkeeper that was set by Liverpool in their acquisition of Roma's Alisson earlier this summer.

"Chelsea and Real Madrid have tonight agreed terms for the permanent transfer of Thibaut Courtois subject to the agreement of personal terms and passing a medical", Chelsea signalled in a statement published on the club's official website.

He has played 53 times in La Liga for Bilbao over the last two seasons, and made his global debut in a 5-0 friendly win over Costa Rica in November 2017.

"So many things attracted me to the club, all the titles the club has won, the other players, the city, the English Premier League".

Real, meanwhile, confirmed Courtois will undergo a medical on Thursday morning before signing a six-year deal.

Chelsea's transfer window has suddenly gone from bad to slightly better as the Blues have finally completed a huge swap deal with Real Madrid.
