Sonic the Hedgehog was a giant hit after debuting on the SEGA Genesis in 1991.

The past few months have had plenty of casting announcements for the live-action/CG hybrid Sonic the Hedgehog movie, from James Marsden to Jim Carrey, who was recently lined up to play Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik.

House of Lies series regular and Parks and Recreation guest star Ben Schwartz has landed the voice role of Sonic the Hedgehog, making him the biggest star to voice the character since Family Matters star Jaleel White had the honor on the animated series The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog in 1993. According to Variety, Ben Schwartz is going to voice Sonic the Hedgehog. Since then, Sonic has spawned endless video games, cartoons, and even the longest running comic book based on a video game.

Envisioned as a synthesis of live-action and CGI, the film is to center around Sonic and his friends Tails the fox and Knuckles the echidna. That gives Ben Schwartz plenty of time to also land roles as the new voice of Beavis, Buster Bunny, Tommy Pickles, and Homer Simpson's trousers before we see him spin into theaters. Have you seen any of Schwartz's work? So Schwartz will mix right in with the action, though it's unknown which other voice actors will be cast in the film to portray Tails and potential other characters. Deadpool director Tim Miller is the executive producer for the film, while Jeff Fowler will direct.

The movie is now filming in Canada, and one of the first images from the set emerged recently.
