Lovren was a defensive rock as Croatia came from behind to beat England in the semi-final on Wednesday and seal a date with France in Moscow on Sunday.

He added: "Today everyone in Croatia and around the world knows that we managed to make history".

And the Liverpool defender has praised Croatian parents for "making good love" and giving the small country several sports stars. We will never forget this.

"It's not only the English press". In extra time we showed that we are still able with the fatigue to play our game.

"Sometimes it is unfair".

Like with my case, I think people should respect me also.

"If you want, I had two players in the team because Ivan Perisic was my player when we won the double years ago at Dortmund". This is what I wanted. This is why I am proud.

With a place in the final secured after a 2017-18 season in which Liverpool reached the Champions League final despite criticisms of their defensive weaknesses, Lovren feels a point had been proven about his quality as a player.

"There is too much about me but, whatever, this is what gets me more motivated to work harder and prove everyone wrong".

This is also the first time the Balkan nation has made the final - the furthest they had advanced previously was in France in 1998, when a Davor Suker-inspired side were knocked out by the hosts in the last four.

Oblak has established himself as one of the world's very best goalkeepers during his four years with Atlético Madrid and the Slovenian global would represent a major summer coup for Liverpool, if a deal can be struck.

"I really don't understand these questions, always looking back to where I made some mistakes", he said.

"Now we have the chance to do something even better and hopefully we can do it".
