Miami Beach police arrested 46-year-old Jonathan Crenshaw Tuesday and charged him with aggravated battery.

According to the Miami Herald, Crenshaw is a popular fixture in South Beach, where he is known for painting canvas using his feet on the Lincoln Road Mall.

The incident in question unfolded on Monday when Chicago resident Cesar Coronado, 22, and a female friend stopped in the South Beach area to ask Crenshaw for directions, the Miami New Times reported.

Crenshaw then used the scissors to stab Coronado two times before he fled the scene with the scissors in his waistband, police said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

The Miami Herald reports police found Coronado bleeding from his left arm.

Barrientos described the attacker to police as a homeless, armless man. Officers found Crenshaw a short distance away and arrested him.

His arrest record includes offences dating back to 2008 for trespassing, disorderly intoxication, vandalism and battery on police officers among others. Crenshaw, who is being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, told the police that he acted in self-defense.
