Fire crews worked into the evening and flames could still be seen from Sun Prairie High School, almost one mile away just before midnight.

Firefighters arrived to investigate the leak and cordon off the area.

Two firefighters and a police officer were taken to a local hospital. We will keep on building on this.

Firefighters and police in the community of about 30,000 had responded and Konopacki said an evacuation was underway when the blast occurred.

A union leader is identifying the Wisconsin firefighter killed in a gas explosion as a man who also owned a tavern that caught fire the blast.

Schulze said WE Energies was still working Wednesday afternoon to restore gas service to the 500 customers who were affected by the explosion. As of 2:15 p.m. on July 11, the fundraiser had exceeded its goal - $20,184 of $15,000.

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. (AP) - A police lieutenant in a suburb of Madison, Wisconsin, says no deaths have been reported after an explosion rocked the downtown area but that authorities will be searching buildings.

Several buildings were significantly damaged, and there is no timetable yet for when people will be allowed back in the half-mile radius/evacuation zone. The Barr House and Glass Nickel Pizza exploded after the gas ignited, police said. He said the building across from his shop "literally lifted up".

"People were scrambling", Owen said, according to Fox 6.

He said the force of the blast knocked him back in his chair and that he ran outside and saw a ball of fire.

Jill Thompson, 56, who lives about two blocks away, said she saw smoke immediately after the blast occurred. I thought someone had hit the building with their vehicle. Witnesses said the fire broke out after a loud boom Tuesday night shook the community.
