A Patriot missile shot down the drone, after it set off air-defence sirens on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and the Jordanian border, Reuters reported.

According to Netanyahu's office, the prime minister "made it clear that Israel will not tolerate a military presence by Iran or its proxies anywhere in Syria and that Syria must strictly abide by the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement".

"They are treated in hospital and go back the same day", said Major Sergei Kutikov, an Israeli military health officer.

On the other hand, Shoigu said that the U.S. is trying to destabilize the situation in Syria and to prolong the crisis in it, indicating that Washington hasn't allocated any money to help the Syrian civilians who have been affected by the war.

"A drone penetrated from Syria's territory to Israel's territory several hours ago". It had also flown over Jordan, he said. The army said it will "not allow any violation of Israeli airspace and will act against any attempt to hurt our civilians".

In February Israel shot down an Iranian-operated drone that it tracked entering its airspace from Syria. It bombed Iranian targets in Syria in response to that incident.

Russia, another top key ally of Assad, has warned it would be unrealistic to expect Iran to fully withdraw from the country.

Israel has largely stayed out of the fighting in Syria but it has carried out dozens of airstrikes on alleged arms shipments bound for the militant group Hezbollah. Russian Federation has previously told Israel they don't have the capability of doing so, and that the Iranian presence is up to Syria.

Watched by Israeli soldiers with night-vision equipment, one woman - carrying one child and holding the hand of another - stepped through a gate built into Israel's security fence in the occupied Golan Heights.

Israel, which captured the Golan Heights from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war, has largely stayed out of the current conflict.
