Ahead of the team's Europa League first-round qualifier on Thursday against Macedonian side FC Shkupi, former Liverpool skipper Gerrard told reporters that his charges must "be ready" to compete for a place in his squad.

The Nigeria under-23 global is set to arrive in Glasgow for a season-long loan, and could even feature in some capacity on Thursday evening, should the Gers complete the paperwork for the move by Wednesday.

Talking to Rangers TV, the midfielder said he was anxious he was the victim of a prank call when Gerrard phoned him to discuss a move to Rangers.

The 21-year-old - Steven Gerrard's ninth summer signing - impressed for NAC Breda last season, scoring five goals in 12 matches for the Dutch outfit. Coulibaly told Rangers TV. He just asked me whether if I wanted to join his team or not and I said yes. Even if the plan was to stay at Roma I couldn't turn him down.

"But I'm confident that come kick-off the players will be ready to go".

"Rangers are a good team and I knew the name before Gerrard came in".

Speaking to RangersTV Sadiq - whose deal is subject to worldwide clearance and who claimed that, "in Nigeria I am compared to the legend Kanu and Emmanuel Adebayor" - said: "It is very good to be here, it has been good so far and I can't wait to start".

"He can help me to develop. I know the team are in the Europa League and I know there is a big rivalry with Celtic".

Sadiq will join the likes of Connor Goldson, Jamie Murphy, Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan and Scott Arfield as new signings at Ibrox, and will give Gerrard a new look team to take into his first managerial combat with.
