The PGA Tour's 2018-19 season will look significantly different than in years past, a reality for months that became official Tuesday when commissioner Jay Monahan announced the details.

Global professional services firm Aon has announced a multi-year partnership with the PGA tour and LPGA to hold a unique golf competition.

The WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational will be one of four World Golf Championships events on the 2018-19 PGA TOUR schedule sanctioned and organized by the International Federation of PGA Tours.

After months of teasing, the PGA Tour's return to MI got a name, date and confirmation of location Tuesday.

Triggered in part by the shifting of golf majors with the PGA Championship moving from August to May starting in 2019, the season will end before the start of the television-dominating National Football League season.

It also marks the return of a premier PGA Tour event to MI for the first time since the Buick Open wrapped up in Grand Blanc in 2009. "This will enhance the visibility of the FedEx Cup play-offs and overall fan engagement with the PGA Tour and the game as a whole".

"By concluding at the end of August, the FedExCup playoffs no longer have the challenge of sharing the stage with college and professional football".

The tour will feature 46 events over 41 weeks, down from 48 tournaments this year. Then there is considerable change from past years. Puerto Rico is slotted for February 18-24, the same week as the WGC-Mexico Championship.

Valspar is followed by the WGC-Dell Match Play Championship and the Valero Texas Open, which precedes the Masters.

Scheduled for May 13-19, 2019, at Bethpage State Park's Black Course (above), the PGA Championship will be the second major played in the 2019 tournament schedule, five weeks after the Masters Tournament and five weeks before the U.S. Open.

The RBC Canadian Open moves a week before the U.S. Open, held next year at Pebble Beach. FedEx has assumed title sponsorship of the event now known as the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, which has been staged in Akron, Ohio, since 1999.

Go ahead and mark June 24-30 on the 2019 calendar.
