The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has launched an investigation to find those responsible for the attack, reports NBC Los Angeles.

According to another witness, identified by CBS Los Angeles only as "Catherine", the little girl's mother shouted "bad things" at Rodriguez as she beat him with her hands and then a chunk of concrete, including, "go back to your country, why are you here?" Rodriguez is now hospitalized for his injuries.

LASD tells FOX 11 they are investigating this case and they believe Rodriguez was attacked from behind.

Rodriguez is a legal US citizen. Here's what you need to know. His family said the woman was upset that he had accidentally bumped into the child. "And when the guys came, they hit him in the face, his body, everything", the woman told the news site. "I wouldn't want to see somebody jump on an older guy like that", neighbor Margie Morris told KABC Los Angeles.

Detective Matt Luna said that "as he fell on the ground, he blacked out" after the girl's mother hit him from behind. Then she called 911.

The beating left Rodriguez with several injuries, including a bruised and battered face, a broken cheekbone, head injuries, and bruised ribs. Erik Mendoza, his grandson, told the local station his grandfather doesn't speak English and doesn't understand why he was attacked. A video was taken by a witness showing a woman who appears to be African American with a brick in her hand.

Meanwhile, around 8:30 p.m., Mendoza and his family had gathered outside to watch the Independence Day fireworks, but Rodriguez was nowhere to be seen.

Rodolfo Rodriguez had just finished eating his dinner and went for his daily walk around the block.

"She was yelling at him, 'Go back to your country, ' or 'Go back to Mexico, '" Borjas told the Times. Rodriguez is a legal USA resident, according to Independent.

According to the witness who jumped out of her auto and started filming the beating, the child's mother said, 'Oh, he tried to touch my girl.' with the witness vehemently refuting the mother, telling KCBS, 'I saw everything, this is a lie. "How can you hurt a 92-year-old man? There's no harm that he meant for you to treat him the way you did". "She see me in my auto and walking to me and she told me, 'Oh, what are you doing?"

That's when Rodriguez was reportedly attacked by the toddler's mother on the sidewalk. Authorities say a group of men joined in the attack.
