Liverpool have begun formal negotiations with Stoke City over the transfer of Xherdan Shaqiri, according to reports.

The winger, who scored seven goals for the newly-relegated Potters last season, has a release clause of £13.5m.

The Echo reports that Shaqiri would prefer a move to Liverpool and Stoke are hopeful that selling the Swiss global to the Reds would mean they would be more willing to loan out one of Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo.

Shaqiri has a release clause in his contract which the Daily Telegraph claim is in excess of the £12million figure which has been widely reported.

A move to Anfield would make Shaqiri the Reds' third signing of the summer following the arrival of midfielders Fabinho and Isaac Christie-Davies.

Stoke are open to offers following their relegation from the Premier League, with Shaqiri unlikely to stick around at a Championship club.

Liverpool are confident that they will sign Swiss worldwide Xherdan Shaqiri this summer, according to a report in The Guardian.

Liverpool are also in talks with Stoke and are believed to be closing in on an agreement with the Potters over a fee for the winger. Liverpool got lucky last season in that their front three - Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mo Salah - remained fit and healthy for the majority of the campaign, but their lack of depth was exposed during the Champions League final, when Salah departed injured. Fekir is now part of the French squad which have made it to the World Cup final.
