Thanks to the secrecy surrounding the Star Wars franchise we have no idea what Lando will be up to when we catch up with him in Episode IX, but at the very, very least we expect a lot more space capes.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, rumors began to spread that Williams would join the production when the actor bowed out of an upcoming convention citing a filming conflict. Of course, the character was also impeccably played by Donald Glover just a few months ago in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

"To be a part of this family and to be able to play young Lando, a hero of mine, you know, it's the stuff dreams are made of, so I feel really blessed", he added.

Old crew: Calrissian is arguably the biggest remaining character from the first trilogy, with Harrison Ford's Han Solo and Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker now killed off, while a return for Princess Leia now impossible following the tragic passing of Carrie Fisher in 2016.

If the report is true, then Episode IX - directed and written by J.J. Abrams and slated for a December 2019 release - is getting better all the time.

JJ Abrams will direct once again, having helmed 2015's The Force Awakens, handing the reigns to Rian Johnson for last year's The Last Jedi.

Hot on the heels of news that Keri Russell, yes, Felicity's Keri Russell, was cast in Star Wars: Episode IX, we get confirmation that the galaxy's original far far away player is due back in his fabulous blue coat.
