Barcelona have confirmed Paulinho is leaving the club to rejoin Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande on an initial one-season loan deal.

However, a later update to the article saw the wording change slightly: "FC Barcelona and Guangzhou Evergrande have reached an agreement for the loan transfer of Paulinho Bezerra for one season, with a subsequent purchase option for the Chinese club".

He made a bright start to life at Barca, however, and while his form dipped later on he formed a key part of the team that won a domestic double in 2017-18.

Although not always a guaranteed starter under Ernesto Valverde last season, Paulinho racked up 49 appearances for the LaLiga and Copa del Rey winners last season, scoring nine goals.

News of the one-year deal came less than three days after Brazil's elimination from the World Cup in Russian Federation.

Colombia's Yerry Mina is another player whose future appears uncertain at Camp Nou, with interest from Everton arising for the central defender.

"I hope to bring more championships to Guangzhou and Guangzhou fans. I also hope to give the Super League more excitement".

Paulinho's move to Barcelona past year was met with some scepticism given his previous poor spell with Tottenham Hotspur but his fitness, mobility and attacking threat made him a powerful weapon - fully winning over the Camp Nou crowd. The move for Arthur would be complemented by Yerry Mina's departure in order to comply to the La Liga registration rules.

As for Paulinho himself, it seems to be a logical move considering the fact that he will turn 30 later this month.
