Called "Surface Go", it is is an affordable Windows tablet with a 10-inch, 1800 x 1200 display. No, not the Surface Pro 3 meant to replace your laptop, but the smaller 10.8-inch model that was meant to go head-to-head with the iPad.

The most interesting thing about this new portable device is the fact that it comes with a USB-C port. For $399 you get 4GB RAM, 64GB of eMMC storage, and Windows 10 Home.

Finally, we should note that the Surface Go is not now offered with 4G LTE support and you can only get a Wi-Fi one, while iPads are offered in both styles. Some of these may be individuals who always wanted a Surface but couldn't afford it until now, with the base-level tablet on its own costing $399. There is no indication if this will simply be a preorder phase for the tablet or if they will actually start shipping on 7/13.

The Surface is bundled with their signature built-in kickstand with unlimited positions, a front-facing camera with facial recognition login, and Microsoft's proprietary Surface Connector port for charging and connecting to a desktop dock. One can, however, upgrade to a 128 or 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM by paying extra. The device starts at a price of $399 (or approx Rs 27,433), but you will have to shell out more for a type cover and Surface Pen. The Type Cover's keys, similar in size to shrunken HP Mini netbooks of a decade ago, were comfortable and could be typed on with big adult fingers.

On a final note, some Microsoft fans are sure to be disappointed by the reveal of the Surface Go.

What do you think about the specifications and pricing of the Microsoft Surface Go?

That's according to a supposedly official document, which suggests that the long-rumoured Microsoft Surface device will launch on Friday alongside a redesigned Type Cover. The company just launched a 10” Surface Go with Windows 10 out of the box, although with its lite S flavor.

Finally, Microsoft says that a model with LTE cellular connectivity is in the works, but won't be ready until later this year. The Surface Go will make its way to India, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Kuwait and Bahrain later this year. Also available is the optional $34.99 (roughly Rs. 2,400) Surface Mobile Mouse. While the keyboard will reportedly increase the price of the Surface Go up by at least $99 (roughly Rs. 6,800), the Pen will add another $99.

Microsoft quietly has shifted its goal for Surface hardware from carving out new niches which can be exploited by Microsoft and its OEM partners, to expanding the overall market for Surface.
