George was riding Tuesday morning on the Italian island of Sardinia when the auto turned in front of him and reportedly hit him.

Olbia police commander Giovanni Mannoni told CNN that the actor will be monitored by hospital staff as an outpatient for the next few weeks.

Clooney, 57, was reportedly thrown from his two-wheeler onto the windscreen of the vehicle. The two reportedly left together in a private vehicle after he was given the clear. If Clooney would have been seriously injured, the driver would have become public enemy number one.

Local daily La Nuova Sardegna says Clooney's injuries aren't serious, but that he was taken to the John Paul II hospital emergency room on Tuesday.

La Nuova Sardegna says Clooney was knocked off his bike by a auto and sustained minor injuries. He was reportedly heading to the set when he was struck by the auto.

Italian media reports Clooney has already been released from the hospital.

In pictures from the crash, obtained by the MailOnline, the vehicle involved in the crash appears to have a smashed windscreen, suggesting George may even have hit it during the crash. "Over a period of time, it became clear we were more than just friends".

George has been working hard in the region for his new project Catch 22, with the star directing, producing and starring in the six episode miniseries based on Joseph Heller's seminal novel.
