The accident took place early on Tuesday morning and the "Ocean's 11" actor was transported to hospital from the scene, reports HuffPost Italia.

The US actor, 57, was said to be riding his motorbike at Costa Corallina, Puntaldia, when he collided with a Mercedes auto on Tuesday morning, according to TGR Rai Sardegna.

A photo published on La Nuova Sardegna website shows a black scooter on one side of the road, with a dark blue estate auto facing the other way, at an angle across the central reserve.

Local daily La Nuova Sardegna said Clooney's injuries weren't serious, but that he was taken to the John Paul II hospital emergency room.

HuffPost UK has contacted George's representatives for comment.

George Clooney was reportedly involved in a vehicle accident on Monday.

This is a developing story and will be updated when more information becomes available.

Clooney has a home on Lake Como, which is on the Italian mainland.

The actor is now on the island filming a new TV series "Catch-22", based on the 1961 book of the same name written by Joseph Heller.

It was announced in April that the multi-talented star was reducing his role in the Hulu production so he could concentrate on his directing and producing credits.

His castmates include Hugh Laurie, Austin Stowell ('Whiplash') and Kyle Martin Chandler ('Friday Night Lights').
