Wilshere was born in Stevenage and was brought up in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, an hour's journey north of West Ham's old ground of Upton Park.
Following his departure from Arsenal towards the end of June, the 26-year-old is presently a free agent and was set for a move to Fenerbahce according to reports.
'Many people know that I've had a special bond with this club growing up.
"My family and a few of my friends are West Ham fans so everyone's buzzing".
Wilshere's career has been hobbled by injuries and he was willing to take a pay cut to stay at a club he had been with for 17 years but Wenger's departure left his fate in Emery's hands.
Wilshere, who supported West Ham as a boy, will now fly out to Switzerland to join his new team-mates on their pre-season training camp in Bad Ragaz.
'I think it was a number of things, ' he explained.
'The fans, of course - everyone knows how big West Ham's fanbase is - and especially in this new Stadium.
Whilst the photograph doesn't reveal too much, it shows just how much Jack Wilshere retains affection for the Hammers, becoming apparent it would be his club of choice now that his contract has expired. "The manager [Manuel Pellegrini] being one and the way he wants to play and where he sees me playing".
